About the USPCA
The USPCA shelter: The Haven
USPCA Shelter
The USPCA employs about 10 staff to take care of cats and dogs at their 2 shelter locations, the Old Haven in Mbuya, and the new location, not yet fully open to the public. Together, these shelters house about 350 dogs and cats.
Shelter staff are responsible for feeding and caring for the animals, cleaning the kennels, cooking pet food, rescuing cats and dogs in and around Kampala, welcoming visitors and volunteers and showing potential adopters the animals available for adoption, socializing, grooming, and de-worming shelter animals, checking in new rescues brought to the shelter, and regularly checking on the animals to make sure all are healthy and adjusting well to shelter life. We pride ourselves on having dedicated, loving, and experienced shelter staff taking care of our cherished shelter pets.

The USPCA's main shelter, The Haven in Mbuya, provides a safe and caring place for rescued cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens. We don't turn anyone away. Our shelter's cats and dogs are rescued from cruelty situations, abandonment (too often they are left behind when owners shift homes, and they leave their pets to fend for themselves), from accidents with vehicles, from communities where the animal may be in danger, and accepted from people who can no longer provide the necessary care their pet requires.
Upon entry to the shelter, each pet is examined, given vaccinations if they have no shot record, de-wormed, bathed, if needed, and prior to adoption, each will be spayed or neutered.
We provide 2 meals a day for our adult animals and more frequent meals for very young animals. Thanks to our staff and volunteers, they get love, socialization, and exercise.
